Idaho National Laboratory’s (INL)) Nuclear Remote Systems group is seeking forward-thinking professionals interested in exploring a career as a Nuclear Remote Systems Process Engineer – Fueled Capsule Experiments.

Our team works an onsite 4×10 schedule located at our Materials and Fuels Complex with every Friday off!

Responsibilities Include:

A Hot Fuel Examination Facility, HFEF, Nuclear Remote Process Engineer is integrated with Engineering, Research, and Operations. We are results driven gatekeepers for in-cell remote applications, balancing the engineering process with the needs of researchers and the conduct of operations.

A Nuclear Remote Systems Process Engineer applies engineering knowledge and experience to operate, calibrate, maintain, or modify remotely operated equipment and instrumentation systems used in an inert hot cell environment for the purpose of conducting Post Irradiation Examinations, PIE, on irradiated nuclear fuels for Department of Energy, Homeland Security, Industry, and University partnerships. Process Engineers are required to provide novel solutions to complex problems involving electromechanical equipment, precision measurement instrumentation, lifting and handling, and component fixturing. The Process Engineer becomes the Subject Matter Expert for their assigned remote PIE equipment and instrumentation by performing; operations and maintenance, installation and qualification, configuration management, design, reviews, verification, procurement, scheduling, cost estimating, writing and revising procedures, data collection and interpretation, and Operator training. Remote Process Engineers work in collaboration with Remote Design Engineers, Researchers, Program Managers, and Operations Personnel to execute nondestructive and destructive PIE for the mission of INL.

Minimum Requirements:

  • PR0100 – Bachelor of Science in Materials Science, Mechanical, Electrical, Nuclear Engineering, or other related field
  • Must be a US Citizen and have the ability and willingness to obtain and maintain a DOE “L” clearance

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience with mechanical design, drafting, and modeling.
  • Ability to solve complex problems of mechanical/electrical systems and experiments in a remotely operated nuclear research hot cell.
  • Experience with research-based experiment design for operational remote handling of irradiated fueled capsules and test trains.
  • Experience working in radiological or nuclear facilities.
  • Must be, or become qualified to INL Tech Staff requirements
  • Must be, or become rad worker 1 or 2 trained, as required

Job Information:

  • Salary Grade PR0100 – 200 ($81,288 – $134,100)
  • TDP: This is a testing designated position; you will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug screen and periodic drug testing throughout the term of your employment.
